Instead DevOps could serve as a great foundation for a better PaaS ofering- DevOps-PaaS where DevOps becomes part of the core services within a PaaS environment - see the reference to a talk that i just had on that regard last week during the CloudCamp event http://ht.ly/aDQLUAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8413122360895346611.post-34660382907149831612012-02-03T16:03:39.529+01:002012-02-03T16:03:39.529+01:00Just been going through the same line of thoughts:...Just been going through the same line of thoughts: in my company, they don't provide a backup network location, so I thought about sharing through P2P my important stuff with the 3 other guys in my room.

Here are some thoughts, just for the debate, no hurt intended:

1/ Such P2P backup software would need to be installed by the IT department (can't install anything on my company laptop, can I?) - so some form of validation by them must be made. This means such a solution must have some show-off webpage page. And the GUI must be really easy to grasp.

2/ Crashplan's offer (http://www.crashplan.com/business/) does have a local backup P2P configuration, the cloud-like backup is put forward but is not compulsory.

3/ Convincing people to donate HD space is hard - my colleague is complaining just now that his new 200GB extension is too small.

BestIgorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15925802156200930293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8413122360895346611.post-12694142046943794982011-05-25T20:14:36.089+02:002011-05-25T20:14:36.089+02:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Ingmarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12308483969920700909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8413122360895346611.post-89106152753350211902011-05-06T16:46:54.981+02:002011-05-06T16:46:54.981+02:00I think we are not only discussing the product but...I think we are not only discussing the product but the process as well here.

If there are means in place to get things prioritize and done in a company we should rather counsel people to use these means instead of just doing them quickly as a side-project (i.e. op guys quickly doing something, because they can). The latter almost always leads to great debt in terms of permanent side-responsibilities. So TCO in the wrong placepvblivshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14864216551658474352noreply@blogger.com
